AASP/NJ Backs Automotive Repair Data Sharing Commitment

11.20.23 – The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers of New Jersey (AASP/NJ) affirms its commitment as a strong advocate for safe and proper repairs by standing in line with the Automotive Data Sharing Commitment, recently issued by the Automotive Service Association (ASA), the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) and the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AAI) in relation to the proposed federal REPAIR Act.

Whereas these national groups support consumers’ right to be able to choose where they have their car repaired, they share concerns surrounding how the available data would be used.

The SCRS, ASA and AAI Automotive Data Sharing Commitment states, “This commitment was created with one group of people in mind: vehicle owners. It recognizes and reaffirms the belief that consumers should have access to safe and proper repairs throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. The parties commit to ensure consumer choice in vehicle repair decisions and support the independent repair community as provided below and as outlined in the existing 2014 Memorandum of Understanding.”

“Right to repair and the original 2014 Memorandum of Understanding with automotive manufacturers is fundamentally sound,” states AASP/NJ President Ken Miller. “It works and does what it was designed to do, allowing independent body shops the ability to fix cars. Therefore, we believe it’s important that repairers and the general voting public understand what is being presented via the REPAIR Act initiative, as there is cause for automotive professionals to question how this information will be available and how it will be used.”
